As we approach the annual WorldNet & BTV tournament, we would like to remind all teams of the following important rules to ensure a smooth and enjoyable event for everyone involved:
Rule 8.3: Team managers, organisers, and captains are responsible for ensuring that there are no circumstances in which players are sent off. They should make their best efforts to remove any “hothead” players from the field of play for a period of time at their discretion until they have calmed down. This can be done using the IFA policy of allowing rolling substitutions, as noted in Rule 5.4, before the referee needs to issue a red card.
Rule 8.5: In the event that a red card is issued, a substitute MUST NOT be brought on in place of the offending player.
There seems to be a misconception that red cards don’t exist in the IFA – and that is simply not the case. Our rules give allowances in the hope that where possible organisers can remove “hothead” players to cool off, however in the rare occurrence that red cards are given, they stand and you cannot replace the player with a substitute.
New Rule Trial for 2024 Tournament
Inspired by new regulations implemented for Euro 2024 by UEFA, the IFA will be trialing a new rule during this year’s WorldNet tournament:
Respecting Officials
To facilitate clearer communication, only the captain – or a nominated outfield player if the captain is a goalkeeper – may approach the referee to discuss decisions. Players who disregard this rule by approaching referees, showing dissent, or acting disrespectfully will be cautioned and the captain asked to sub the offending player.
We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these rules, which are designed to maintain fairness and respect throughout the IFA Leagues, Cups and tournaments. Let’s ensure that WorldNet & BTV 2024 and the IFA 2024/25 season are a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
Thank you, and best of luck to all teams!
