THE IFA has always taken pride in seeing it’s teams get involved in the issues of the day that affect football supporters, especially those who travel big distances to see their teams play.
Last season, many fans stayed away from Football League Checkatrade Trophy games in protest at the EFL’s changes to the competition, particularly the introduction of elite clubs’ U23 teams into the competition, which supporters saw as a first step to B-teams in the League, and therefore undermining of true competition and promotion/relegation in the FL pyramid.
Supporters across the country will be boycotting games again this season and tomorrow evening, at the same time as Grimsby Town and Doncaster Rovers are playing in the trophy, the two IFA teams have made serious attempts to get fans to come to their game instead with the aim of attracting a similar attendance to the trophy game itself.
